From midlife on, women have been caught up in the myths of getting older—pain, anxiety, depression, memory loss, and becoming a lesser member of society.
PRESENT compassionately guides the reader to
- Dispel ageism myths that affect women
- Cherish her body & avoid chronic pain
- Exercise, eat well, and relax for a healthy brain
- Reduce anxiety and depression
- Find the power in both anger and forgiveness
- Reconcile with regret
- Find deep connection in communication
- Declare a bold path forward
By sharing stories, imparting knowledge, and cultivating self awareness, Nancy empowers the reader to reevaluate her beliefs, regain her physical health, process anger and regret, learn how to connect deeply, and declare a bold path for all the years ahead.
More than just a mindfulness book or self care journal, PRESENT is a motivational book for women in the second half of life. It is filled with questions that challenge our thoughts on aging, self-acceptance, and life purpose for women over 40.

When a female friend told me about this book I really didn’t expect to get much out of it as a man. But, I was pleasantly surprised at how relatable the practical, real-world advice was to me. While the stories are of women the experiences are applicable to everyone. The author’s writing style is down-to-earth and you can tell it comes from the heart.
The exercises are not the typical “you do this and and your life will be perfect” that is found in too many self-help books. Candea provides real, practical, thought-provoking, and often challenging questions which made me dig deeper than I have in a while. The ‘digging’ I have started will continue long after I put the book down. I recommend this for anyone (women AND men) who are entering the second phase of life (post kids, work, relationships, etc.)

I am extremely grateful that I have been blessed to have Nancy Candea as part of my life for many years. Her gift of this book – The Present – is yet another reason to be grateful for her. Nancy’s openness, honesty and sharing of her life’s journey and lessons she has learned along the way are such powerful gifts. It indeed is a “present” to her readers.
The subject matter, actually living life in its second half, dispels the angst, pre-conception and fear of the very natural process of aging. Nancy refers to the concept of “age-ism” as one of the negative “isms” in society – a perfect notion that over time we have allowed to take hold of us at our core, that somehow as women ‘age’, a negative stigma is put in place. Nancy will dispel this notion and give you insight on how to positively impact your life’s second half.
This is NOT a typical self-help book, you will NOT find a fountain of youth as you read through this book but you will find yourself referring to it again and again for deeper purposes. Are there exercises to help you on your journey to live fully in the second half of your life? Yes there are some….but if you put the work in and really do the self-discovery, you will reap benefits that blow “age-ism” out of the water!
Here is an excerpt that will give you a look into this author and her profound message:
“I have come to believe that our mission is to help usher in heaven on earth, so that all beings can explore their spirituality and live in peace. In the second half of my life, I feel the urgency to develop my capacity and offer my service to this end.”
Do you have a word or phrase to focus on, to live by? Many may say “gratitude”. Nancy’s phrase is “loving kindness”. Can you imagine approaching life from this perspective? I encourage you to read this book, make it a “present” to yourself and with Nancy’s help, find your path in your second half of life. You won’t be disappointed.

Nancy Candea has taken all the elements of a happy and fulfilling live and given us a way to work on our own lives through her insights, examples, and questions. Each section gives the opportunity to do a deep dive on a single area. She gives the reader workbook-like pages to help us be introspective and use self-study to illuminate and improve the areas we need to focus on. I am going to get a notebook and read through a second time and really use these questions to help me make my life the best it can be! Nancy gives new hope to those of us in our “second half”!

Nancy is so good at sharing what she knows! My first thought is that this information is not only good for the 2nd half of life but MUCH of it would be very useful to know for the first half as well. And I think men need this information to understand the women in their life as well as the health tools for themselves! She share’s what has worked for others as well as herself. Sharing what women may have experienced and thought was ‘unshareable’ or ‘unhealable’ yet here it is, a way forward!
This book provides tools and insights that it will be a resource book, not just a read and forget, or take 1 or 2 things from. I have already decided that I want to order a stack of them to sell at my office (I’m a Massage Therapist and Trager Practitioner) and I assist people with their bodies yet ALL of what Nancy writes about is information my clients need!
Thank you Nancy for taking the time to put this in writing – all in one place!
